Types of Documents on NeuroWiki

This policy establishes NeuroWiki's three-tier document system. All users must understand and adhere to the following hierarchy of document authority.

Policies

Authority Level: Legally Binding

  • Definition: The fundamental principles and baseline requirements for the operation of the site.
  • Characteristics:
    • Establishes foundational and directional frameworks.
    • Specifies prohibitive clauses that must not be violated.
    • Requires formal community voting for approval.

  • Typical Topics:

Guidelines

Authority Level: Legally Binding

  • Definition: Specific implementation rules based on policies.
  • Characteristics:
    • Provides quantifiable operational standards.
    • Defines clear boundaries between compliance and violation.
    • Allows exemptions in special cases after discussion.
  • Guideline pages must include the template: {{Info/Guidelines}}
  • Typical Topics:

Help

Authority Level: Advisory

  • Definition: Supplementary materials based on policies and guidelines.
  • Characteristics:
    • Provides best practice examples and technical tutorials.
    • Includes non-mandatory recommendations.
    • Users are allowed to adopt alternative approaches.
  • Help pages must include the template: {{Info/Help}}
    Additionally, the template {{Info/Help/Counterpart policy}} should indicate the relevant policy.

Explanation of Authority Relationships

Policies establish principles. Guidelines provide rules. Help offers recommendations.

  • Authority Flow: Policies → Guidelines (not reversible)
  • Interpretation Rights:
  • Conflict Resolution: If conflicts arise between documents of different tiers, the higher-tier document prevails.

Revision Procedures

Revisions to this policy must follow these steps:

  1. Proposals must be initiated using the "motion" tag in the "✍editors-club" channel on the official Discord server.
  2. A public notice period of no less than 14 days is required.
  3. Approval requires the support of at least 2/3 of the Administrator Team members.
  4. Related guidelines and help documents must be updated accordingly after approval.
  5. The site owner retains veto power.
