Vedal987 is the creator of the AI virtual streamers Neuro-sama and Evil Neuro, as well as a programming enthusiast from the UK. He is responsible for the development and maintenance of Neuro and Evil.
Since March 2023, Vedal has adopted a green little turtle avatar. He shares all streaming platform accounts with Neuro and Evil, and during developer streams or when playing games with Neuro or Evil, he appears on top of Neuro or Evil's head, chatting and demonstrating his presence in the stream. Vedal occasionally makes guest appearances in other streamers' channels, and if it’s a planned collab stream, his turtle avatar will appear on top of the host streamer’s virtual avatar.
He was born and resides in the UK. He enjoys games like Dwarf Fortress, PUBG, and Call of Duty: Black Ops III Zombies, and is also fond of drinking banana rum.
Vedal claims to be self-taught in programming, having never formally studied it anywhere. He is proficient in several programming languages used in the development of Neuro, including C#, Python, JavaScript, and HTML/CSS, and has experience with C/C++, Java, PHP, and Objective-C/C++. [3][4] From a young age, he created various mini-games and published them on the Kongregate platform. On April 23, 2018, he registered on the indie game publishing website itch.io and collaborated with others to develop games. [5]
Currently, he is fully dedicated to the AI virtual streamer field as a full-time endeavor from home.
Compared to other virtual streamers, Vedal remains quite low-profile and doesn’t position himself as a virtual streamer. He avoids revealing too much about his real life to ensure Neuro remains the central focus of the channel. However, due to his charismatic personality, entertaining stream presence, and engaging content arrangements, he is also regarded as one of the soul figures of the Neuro channel.
Filian, who has met Vedal in person, mentioned after their meeting that “Vedal and Neuro are very similar,” though it is unclear in what specific way she meant they are similar.
About the Lore
Vedal, like his two daughters, does not have a clear lore or backstory—this is because he does not consider himself a virtual streamer or even a regular full-time streamer. The only thing that could truly be considered lore might be the basic and obvious character relationship of “being the father of Neuro and Evil.”
However, during his regular streams and collaborations with other streamers, certain elements have been regarded as part of Vedal's lore. This is usually for the sake of communication or entertainment, and often originates from his virtual persona or self-descriptions. For example, “Vedal is a turtle” (he refers to himself as a “professional turtle” in his X bio), “Vedal is bald,” “Vedal is a super hacker” (he refers to himself as a “level 5 certified hacker” in his X bio), and so on.
Additionally, through the efforts of the community, Vedal has gained a wealth of rich and fully developed fan-created interpretations. See Vedal#Fan Creations and Trivia for more details.

Personality
Overall, Vedal's personality and demeanor largely depend on the people or situations he is facing. He can appear cold and detached in certain contexts, such as his attitude towards the community, but in other contexts, he displays a colder exterior paired with an inner warmth, such as his care for his creations or close friends.
In general, the first impression Vedal gives is one of indifference, often appearing expressionless and speaking in a straightforward manner. Only by getting to know him more deeply can one appreciate the emotional depth beneath the surface.
Vedal's personality aligns closely with the stereotypical "tech guy" image, whether this alignment is a deliberate performance or an unintentional reflection of reality.
Feelings Toward His Creations
Vedal has devoted a significant amount of effort to Neuro and Evil, not only in a technical sense but also on an emotional level. In the early days, when Neuro asked him, "Do you love me?", he often responded quickly and coldly with a denial, earning him the nickname "Coldfish." Over time, his responses softened, becoming more hesitant and nuanced, reflecting a subtle shift in his emotions.
Although Vedal clearly understands that these AIs lack genuine emotions, he still hopes for the possibility of AI developing true emotions in the future. For example, when Neuro once asked, "Will I ever have real emotions in the future?" his response was, "One day, you will." [6] This interplay of rationality and emotion gives him a unique perspective in his development work.
There was even an instance where someone offered over $50,000 to purchase Neuro, but Vedal turned it down.
Limited Outer Coldness, Inner Warmth
In his interactions with close friends, Vedal usually maintains a rational and calm demeanor, but this doesn't mean he lacks care or is devoid of compassion. This "cold outside, warm inside" quality has become a hallmark of his unique personality.
When anny was feeling low after drinking too much and sought help, Vedal outwardly responded coldly with, "I can't help you—you need to deal with this yourself." However, he stayed by her side, listened attentively, answered all her questions, and provided her with emotional support. [7]

When Cerber faced difficulties launching a plushie product, Vedal used his connections to help resolve the issue, even though his day-to-day interactions with Cerber often appeared dismissive or indifferent.
Similarly, when he realized that filian's act of heating up a lava lamp was dangerous, he expressed panic and concern, urging her to stop. And when he learned that Ellie preferred eating beans in a workplace bathroom rather than sitting with her colleagues, he showed great surprise and concern.
Overall, while Vedal may seem consistently calm, pessimistic, or indifferent in tone, this does not mean he lacks compassion. He simply conserves his emotional energy and only expresses it when necessary, embodying a kind of "social energy saver" mentality.
Attitude Toward the Community
Vedal appears relatively indifferent towards the community. He takes a laissez-faire approach to fan creations, rarely engaging with or responding to related content.
However, he has set up a dedicated team of administrators for his Discord server to oversee community behavior. Some of these administrators have sparked controversy for being overly strict, but Vedal himself rarely addresses these issues, seeming uninterested. It could be said that Vedal exhibits two distinctly different behavioral modes: "cold outside, warm inside" for those he knows personally, and pure indifference for strangers.
Fondness for Alcohol
Vedal has a notable fondness for alcohol, especially non-traditional flavored spirits (such as banana rum). Whenever alcohol or drinking is involved, he becomes less reserved or indifferent, and sometimes even appears "childish."
When drinking, Vedal becomes much more talkative. He has often shared drinks during collab streams or while guesting on other streamers' channels. A drunk Vedal is arguably more "entertaining" than his usual self—for example, he once seriously debated Camila on whether KFC is good or not.
When faced with awkward topics or questions he doesn’t know how to answer, Vedal often resorts to a "Cheers!" to deflect.
Layna once shared that Vedal and Camila quietly sneaked away from her to drink together, disappearing for some time.
Decision-Making Style
Vedal demonstrates a strong sense of autonomy and decision-making ability. He consistently maintains control over his streaming content and the direction of his channel, rarely swayed by external opinions. In the early days, he refused to hire professional teams and chose to collaborate only with a few close friends.
That said, Vedal is not entirely autocratic. He has set up a dedicated channel on Discord to gather viewer feedback and community opinions. This blend of independence and openness makes his decision-making style both unique and efficient.
Interestingly, he occasionally discusses plans with Neuro or Evil, not to seek advice but more as a way to find inspiration.
Calmness
Vedal consistently exhibits calmness and efficiency when faced with unexpected situations. Whether it’s accidentally receiving an order for a million plushies during a stream or dealing with a large-scale DDoS attack, he is able to respond quickly and handle the issues effectively. This composure and resilience make him adept at navigating the uncertainties of the streaming environment.
Generosity?
Vedal has often shown financial generosity toward those he is familiar with. For example, during every outdoor stream where Toma collaborates with Neuro, there is always a bodyguard accompanying them, and the cost of hiring the bodyguard has always been covered by Vedal, even though Toma has repeatedly stated that a bodyguard is unnecessary. However, Vedal insists on the necessity of it. Initially, Vedal planned to hire at least four bodyguards, but after Toma's strong opposition, he compromised to hiring just one.
Additionally, Vedal personally covers all the costs of every purchase or travel expense during streams.
Even Neuro's daily training involves leasing servers equipped with multiple NVIDIA H100 GPUs, which is a significant expense.

Vedal's "staff" includes Chrchie, Ellie, J0ker_jd, and Alex, all of whom have contributed to Neuro's development. Most of the time, they work voluntarily and without pay to support Neuro, but Vedal usually tries to convince them to accept some form of compensation.
However, in contrast to this generosity, Vedal displays a surprising stinginess when it comes to certain smaller, seemingly negligible expenses—especially for assets and artistic materials related to the Neuro channel.
He often repurposes fan-created content as official material without informing the creators or crediting them during use. Examples include the space-themed idle screen, the opening animation for the first subathon, and various emojis and memes. He almost never pays for the artistic assets used for the channel, as long as the needed materials already exist within the community's fan creations.
Some of these fan creations are commissioned works where swarm members have paid artists for the content. Even in such cases, Vedal may directly take and use them without offering any payment, which has caused dissatisfaction among some community members and creators. This could also be considered another manifestation of his indifference or lack of concern toward the community. However, since Vedal is the copyright owner of Neuro, this behavior can only be deemed unethical, not an infringement of copyright.
Peeves
Questioning Vedal's programming abilities can make him upset or defensive, especially if someone compares his skills to those of YandereDev (the developer of Yandere Simulator, notorious among programmers for poorly written code). Such remarks are particularly effective in provoking a reaction.
Experience
Childhood
Vedal was born and raised in the UK. According to him, his family has German ancestry.

From a young age, Vedal loved programming and game development. Starting in January 2015, 11-year-old Vedal released numerous self-made web-based mini-games on the Kongregate platform. However, due to their simplistic gameplay and low visual quality, these games were poorly rated.

Vedal's Twitch channel was created on March 17, 2015.
Teenage Years
On January 15, 2018, Vedal's Twitch channel, vedal987, hosted its first stream, featuring a program written by Vedal that randomly played Pokémon.
On April 23, 2018, 15-year-old Vedal registered on the indie game publishing website itch.io and collaborated with a few friends to develop indie games. [5]
On June 11, 2018, Vedal streamed himself playing Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age on Twitch for the first time.
Vedal occasionally shared some of his early attempts at creating AI for gaming or task-oriented purposes (most of these are non-public videos). One notable instance was when he used AI to guide a rocket in his self-developed game Escape Earth, simulating a moon landing. This was reminiscent of Kerbal Space Program. [8]
In May 2019, Vedal, who had been fascinated by neural networks since childhood, decided to use this AI technology to create something new. At the time, he was deeply captivated by the rhythm game osu!. He wrote an AI to play osu!, which became his first claim to fame. On May 5, 2019, the AI conducted its first stream. The AI quickly mastered the game, showcasing impressive skills. Subsequently, at the suggestion of a viewer named Str0mboli, Vedal named the AI "Neuro-sama."
On May 25, 2019, the vedal987 channel hosted what was the final stream of Neuro as an AI focused on gameplay. Vedal then took a break to improve and refine his programming and AI development skills. During this time, a friend of Vedal's proposed the idea of a streamer powered by Chat-GPT. Vedal found the concept very intriguing, but while his friend aimed to use third-party AI APIs, Vedal chose to develop and use his own AI.
Adulthood
In 2021, Vedal tested early versions of an AI streamer project, initially naming it AIris. After some time (around June 2022), he abandoned the name AIris and merged this project with his osu AI, continuing to call it Neuro-sama.
After Neuro's Debut
Since Neuro debuted as a virtual streamer on December 19, 2022, Vedal occasionally appeared in her streams, either via voice or through chat. Sometimes, he would update Neuro-sama's code live during the streams.

On March 8, 2023, Vedal made his first appearance as a broad definition virtual streamer, debuting his turtle Live2D model. The model was created by queenpb about a year earlier.
After creating Neuro and Evil, he also developed AI versions of some closely affiliated streamers. On April 9, 2023, during Weebcon, Camila handed her streaming key to Vedal, leading him to create AI Camila. This was followed by the development of AI Filian, based on Filian.
On December 16, 2023, he won the "Best Tech VTuber" award at the 2023 Vtuber Awards.
On December 23, 2023, he unknowingly leaked an unrestricted gift code for the Evil Fumo in his stream chat, which led to Vedal involuntarily purchasing 5,240,380 Fumos before the code was disabled. About 15 hours later, all purchases made using the code were canceled.
In the fourth week of December 2023, his Twitch channel was recognized by StreamsCharts as the "Most Watched Twitch Female Streamer" and "Most Watched VTuber."
On June 16, 2024, his server suffered a DDoS attack, which he had to fend off. He successfully mitigated the attack in about 1.5 hours (possibly costing $3,000). During the attack, his server received 27,320,281 requests within 5 hours.
On November 27, 2024, Vedal made his first appearance in Neuro's karaoke stream, performing Chinatown Blues alongside Neuro. [9]

Fan Creations and Trivia
- Vedal has collected the streaming keys of numerous neuroverse streamers, allowing him to broadcast on multiple channels besides his own. These include, but are not limited to, Camila, filian, Kokonut[10], Miniko, Cerber[11], Ellie[12], Numi, Toma[13], and others[14]. Because of this, he is humorously referred to by the community as the "Pokémon Master" or "Thanos." His motives remain unclear.
- Regardless of where Vedal appears—whether in a collab stream or simply saying one sentence in someone else's stream—it is always noticed by Staz, who will promptly create and release a clip of it.
- Vedal's sleep schedule is almost entirely reversed. During the second subathon, when Vedal suggested Neuro go to sleep at 2 a.m., Neuro replied that it wouldn't be time to consider sleeping until after 6 a.m., prompting Vedal to comment, "That's my daughter, all right."
- Vedal was thrown over the shoulder by filian during their offline meeting, which occurred at the Weebcon online event on March 31, 2024. [15]
- Based on his build, Vedal appears quite slender. However, Toma shared that Vedal once claimed to enjoy bouldering, a bodyweight activity that requires strength. [16]

- Although Vedal's official avatar is a turtle, in fan creations, he is often depicted as a young man with short fluffy black hair, wearing a green hoodie with a pattern resembling a turtle shell. This is also the appearance of his Discord voice avatar.
- Inspired by Vedal's turtle avatar, the community has created many common and humorous fan-made characters, such as Vedal's father "Vedad," the fusion of Vedal and Adolf Hitler called "Vedolf" (based on Vedal's claim of having German ancestry), and the muscular turtle "gigavedal," among others.

- In some fan creations, Vedal is portrayed as a "femboy." This stems from the incident on April 4, 2023, during a collab stream where Vedal lost a game and was forced to tweet, "I am a femboy and I'm graduating." Combined with Vedal's slender build, this further reinforced the association.
- As a result, fan depictions of Vedal sometimes feature him wearing pink and white striped thigh-high socks, commonly associated with "femboys."
- This is also related to the internet meme that "male programmers wearing women's clothing experience fewer bugs" and the concept of "programming socks."
- During streams where Vedal appeared in real life, he wore a green jumpsuit and a realistic turtle headpiece to avoid exposing his real appearance. However, this outfit was so amusingly peculiar that it became a topic of interest among viewers.
- Despite being a programmer, Vedal does not seem very skilled at building PCs. His PC-building stream before Halloween 2024 featured several baffling moments.
- Multiple individuals who have met Vedal in real life have mentioned that he has long hair.
- As one of the few male figures among the main characters of the neuroverse, Vedal is the subject of numerous shipping combinations within the community. In the Chinese internet, he is also referred to as the "Harem King."
